The English Debating Society of Modern School was founded a few years ago. It consists of members from all classes, that is S-1 to S-7, & the office bearers of the English debating society are elected from S-7 on the basis of debating skills & organizational ability. The offices held are :- one or two presidents, on or two presidents, one or two vice presidents & one secretary.
The Debating Society meets before every major inter school debate to decide the participants, whereas it organizes, sets up, collects funds for & hosts the Annual Raghubir Singh & Pratap Singh inter school debates.
Once the participants for the upcoming debate are chosen, they undergo rigorous training. It starts with the preparation of the text or material of the debate, which is studied, heavily scrutinized & corrected till it is perfect. To achieve this, a lot of research is done on the topic at hand.
After the material is finalized, it is feed into the dicta phone, so that the participants can practice with it even at home.
A highly intense & thorough training is given to the participants during free periods, the break & even after school. No stone is left unturned as pronunciation, speed, expression & clarity of the speakers, are all corrected over & over again, till they reach perfection.
The final preparation is the mike practice, which is started a couple of days before the debate to give the participant the true feeling & sense of standing on stage & addressing an audience.
Over the years, the members of the Debating Society have won innumerable debates under the guidance & training of the members of the English Department to make Modern School one of the leading schools in inter school debate competitions all over Delhi. The latest of the victories include the Raghubir Singh Inter School debate, the Pratap Singh Inter School debate, the DPS R.K. Puram Annual Inter School Debate & the MSOSA Annual Inter School Debate.
