Department of Ceramic Design and Pottery

    The Department of Ceramics is headed by Mrs. Merlyn, who is a sculpture artist of repute. She has represented India in international ceramic exhibitions. Students are taught to make mosaics, life-size statues and elegant figurines. The extent of their skills can be seen in the two mosaics on the walls of the Technology Block and Canteen. The Department also holds an exhibition of its wonderful creations every year.

Department of Electronics & Robotics

    Electronics and Robotics are helpful to the students in improving their learning in different areas of science and technology such as physics, mechanics, computer programming, mathematics and problem-solving capabilities. The Department of Electronics and Robotics was founded by Mr. Narander Sood in 1964. Mr. Anil Gupta, the current teacher-in-charge, developed a robotics lab in 2003. Modern School has a well-equipped electronics lab, where the students are taught electronics, automation and robotics. Advanced technology of microcontrollers and other high-end equipment is used to make automation instruments featuring wireless control of electronic devices from anywhere. The Electronics & Robotics lab of the school has been instrumental in inculcating scientific attitude & spirit in our budding Edison's and Einstein's.

Department of Fashion & Jewellery Designing

    Fashion Technology is the upcoming field introduced by the C.B.S.E., in 2004, at the 10+2 level. This course offers a comprehensive design education for ambitious students looking for a specialist career in the fashion design industry. In Modern School, the Department was started in 2005 by Mrs. Hema Anand, the teacher-in-charge. The salient feature of the Department is the excellent performance in the 12th Board exams, and it also shows tremendous professional growth in N.I.F.T., Pearl, Apeejay, N.I.D. and Shrishti fashion institutes.

Department of Home Science & Interiors

    Home Science is a versatile subject and forms the basis of planned lifestyle management, both scientifically and aesthetically. Mrs. Shashi Gupta has been heading the Department since 2004. Home Science is offered as a SUPW from the 8th standard to the 10th standard, and as an academic subject at the 10+2 level. It is a productive and creative activity which helps students to enhance their fine motor skills, by learning a number of life skills like cookery, with emphasis on nutritive value, health and hygiene, and interior decoration. As an academic subject, the students have shown an excellent performance in the Board exams. Lab is spacious and well-equipped and the Department aims at all-round development of its students.

Department of Photography

    The Department of Photography of the school fits perfectly in a position to teach students the beautiful art of photography. Headed by the eminent photographer, Mr. Lajpat Rai, the Department teaches the technical aspects, as well as organizes regular workshops, camps and trips to various cultural and heritage sites, for initiating a more practical approach towards the subject. The students hold on annual exhibition of their best photographs of the year, on topics of social, moral and cultural values. They have won several inter-school competitions including “CLICK 2005” organized by Kulachi Hans Rai, and “In search of the big picture” organized by Hindustan Times.

Department of Graphics (Print-Making)

    There is a new Department added to the long list of SUPW subjects in the Technology Block of Modern School, from this session 2009-10 as Graphic (Print-Making) Department. These are various media used in print-making such as Linoleum, New-wood, PVC sheet and plywood along with carving tools. The prints can be mono-print or multi-colour. Mr. ra Singh is the Teacher-in-charge of this Department. He is a Master of Fine Art from Lucknow College of Art and has also received the National Scholarship in 2000-01, from Government of India. Children enjoy working in this newly-introduced Department.

Department of Paper Technology & Calligraphy

    The Department of Paper Technology of Modern School realizes the need of a sense of creativity and imagination and thus provides an outlet for the students to enjoy and learn Paper Technology. A number of activities are held for the students like recycling of paper, making of eco-friendly paper products, papier mache, stencil art, starch coating, marbling, calligraphy and origami. Several workshops in recycled paper-making have been organized in the school in which a number of schools in Delhi as well as some Foreign Embassy schools have participated.

Department of Sculpture & Woodcraft

    Sculpture embraces such varied techniques as modeling, carving, casting and constructions. Students work with various materials and techniques. They do wood carving, clay modeling, plaster of paris casting, fiberglass casting, cement casting, terracotta & iron sculpture. This Department has had a great sculpture teacher in Ram Kinker Baij in the earlier days, followed by Shri Bal Krishan Guru and Sumedh Rajendran. The present teacher, Mr. Somesh Singh (Master of Fine Art) joined this Department in 2005. He is a recipient of the National Scholarship in Sculpture, Govt. of India and a Research grant by Lilit Kala Academy. He has participated in many art exhibitions and sculpture camps all over the country.

Department of Vocal Music

    The Department of Vocal Music of Modern School aims to spread musical awareness among the students. It provides an exposure to the talented and upcoming singers of the school. The untapped musical potential of budding performers is developed by the Department. The aim of the Department led by the able Mrs. Baisakhi Samajdar is acknowledged at every major event of the School, as singers and musicians enthrall the audiences with their splendid performances. This is to the credit of the Department of Vocal Music.

Department of Classical Dance

    The Department of Dance of Modern School has its own heritage value. It is the oldest activity department of the school. The students learn Indian classical dance forms, especially Kathak and Kuchipudi, along with different Indian folk dances. The department has a Dance Club which works to hone the ability, skill and confidence of the students. Various seminars and interactions with great dance gurus and music maestros are arranged for the students for their better understanding of Indian classical dance and music. An annual grand dance drama is performed on the Founder’s Day of the school, every year.

Department of Western Music

    The Department was started in 1997, when Mr. Vikram Sharma- a guitarist and song writer from Avant Grade bands Eternity Minstrel and Karma Sutra joined the school. He led to the formation of the school’s first-ever rock band. Students are encouraged to not only achieve mastery over technical skills, but to play soul-stirring music with passion, with an instrument which is self-expressive. In addition, students have interactive sessions; hear music from diverse cultures, times, composers and styles in order to imbibe the virtue of music appreciation. The Department has been the cradle of some of the country’s premier rock bands like Blank Noize, Cyanide, Half Step Down and Joint Family.

    The Department of Classical Instrumental Music has been making Modern School proud over the years for its remarkable compositions and the performances by the students. The Department is headed by Mr. Rais Ahmed Khan, who is an accomplished Sitarist and a versatile musician. He is also a lyricist and a composer. Since 2006, he has trained his students and given brilliant performances consecutively in three Founder’s Day Functions, various House Functions, raduation Day Function on 23rd January 2009. The students of the Department not only participate nationally, but also internationally. They have been acknowledged by the International Student Festival held at Kirorimal College on the 1st and 2nd December 2007. The Department aims to spread the name of Modern School in the field of classical music all over the world.

Department of Art

    The Department of Art is headed by Ms. Aradhana Gupta, after she succeeded Mrs. Mridula Vichitra in July 2008. The objective of the Department is to teach students to interpret their thoughts and emotions, and learn to showcase them in realistic and fusion art, with the use of different techniques. Active participation in several exhibitions and auctions has proved the skill and creativity of the students. In November 2008, the Department organized a successful auction in collaboration in UNESCO on the subject “Women”.

Department of Dramatics

    The promising Department of Dramatics is headed by Mr. Raj Kumar, an accomplished theatre artist, and is one of the foremost departments in the Technology Block. The Department organizes all of the plays in every House Function, and is applauded for their efforts every time. They also help in the direction and presentation of the Annual Independence Day Function and the show keeps on improving in terms of content and performance each year. There is a theatre club as well called ‘Parvaz’ consisting of past and present students who put up plays as public performances every year.
